Overview of Developmental Disabilities:

The Arizona Department of Economic Security I Division of Developmental Disabilities and the Navajo Nation Social Services provide services and programs to eligible members with Cognitive Disabilities, Autism, Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy.

The Division believes individuals can best be served in integrated community settings. Thus, the majority of programs and services are tailored to meet individual's needs at home and in community-based settings.

The Division coordinates services and resources through a central administrative office, the district office and other DES/DDD offices throughout the state and the Navajo Nation offices in Window Rock, Chinle, and Tuba City.

Who is Eligible for Services?

Any Arizona resident who has a chronic disability, which is attributed to Cognitive Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, or Autism that was manifested

before the age of 18 may be eligible for · services. The disability also must result in the following areas of major life activity, (1) self care, (2) receptive and expressive language, (3) learning, (4) mobility, (5) self-direction, (6) capacity for independent living, and (7) economic self-sufficiency.

Children under the age of six years may be eligible for services if there is a strongly demonstrated potential that the child is, or will become, developmental disabled.
